John Patrick Bray

John Patrick Bray (PhD, MFA) has written under grants from The National Endowment for the Arts and the Acadiana Center for the Arts, and has earned commissions from Rachel Klein Productions (NYC), re:Directions Theatre (NYC), The Dancing Project (Lafayette, LA), The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (Baton Rouge, LA), and Acadiana Repertory Theatre (Lafayette), and Lyric Arts Theatre (Anoka, MN).   His plays have been produced in the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Festival, FRIGID NY, and Planet Connections Theatre Festivity; and have been presented in venues including The Robert Moss Theatre, Circle in the Square (Downtown), The Actors Studio, The New School for Drama Theatre, Bowery Poetry Club, The Kraine Theatre, Under St. Marks’ Theatre, 78th St. Theatre Lab, Seventh St. Small Stage at Jimmy’s No. 43, The Producers’ Club, and in various basements and bars. Outside NYC, his plays have been presented with The Word at The Road in North Hollywood, the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Axial Theatre in Pleasantville, NY; and with the Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights at the Barter Theatre. He has publications with Applause, Smith and Kraus, Next Stage Press, Original Works Publishing, JACPublishing, and Indie Theatre Now.   John serves as literary manager and a resident writer for Rising Sun Performance Co. in NYC and is Vice Chair of the Professional Division of the Georgia Theatre Conference. He is an Assistant Professor at UGA, a member of The Dramatists Guild of America, Inc., and he is an Equity Membership Candidate. His essays have been published in Theatre TopicsNew England Theatre JournalTexas Theatre JournalTheatre Symposium, and Platform (UK), and his textbook, Inciting Incidents: Creating Your Own Theatre from Page to Performance, is published with Kendal Hunt.
